St. George Parish wedding photography

St. George Parish Wedding Photography

I’ve listened to many webinars and attended classes at the photography conference I went to back in February with the theme of finding your ideal client. Cibeli and Michael check of all of my ‘ideal client’ boxes, which certainly is rare as most of the time I know if a couple of these points are checked, I know I will really enjoy photographing the wedding.

  • They value their photography. At one point when we were emailing back and forth Cibeli and Michael mentioned that they had to cut their budget so were going to get a family member to do the photography, but instead we worked out that if they got a smaller package and paid in installments it would work for them.
  • They love to travel- we totally connected straight away because Cibeli is from Brazil and Michael is from here in London Ontario but they are living in Sydney Australia- which I loved their boomerang favors for their guests.
  • They are passionate- about each other, their family, and their careers. Michael is a chiropractor and I loved that they did a photo of him adjusting Cibeli, and she is a Reiki Master & Crystal Awakening Therapist and I loved that she brought a rose quartz stone to harness the engergy of the day.
  • They danced and rocked out to their favourite music
  • They brought their personalities into the wedding- through the time of year, celebrating with their family and friends on thanksgiving.  Being out in nature with the fall colours and bringing that theme into their decor. Love of good food with the wonderful meal from Greenhills Golf Club and cake by Bright Eyes Bakery, love of animals with the horse and carriage and her amazing dress with detachable train, tiara and shawl which certainly made her a fall princess!

Best of 2016: Trash the dress

London Ontario Trash The Dress Photographer

Below you will see some of my favourite images captured in 2016 of Trash the Dress sessions. I only had the chance to photograph three trash the dress/rock the dress sessions in 2016, one with the paint was at the photography conference I went to in St Louis and two at the Rock Glen falls in Arkona, which to my knowledge are the closest pretty falls to London. There are a bunch of reasons why I think doing a Trash the Dress session are a great idea, but I know they aren’t for everyone.

With these sessions safety is the most important thing to me and I always make sure my clients feel safe and comfortable throughout the shoot- although if you’ve chosen to do a shoot in the cold water, I can’t help the temperature but we can be quick about getting the shots we need. I always ask how adventurous you feel like getting- everything from throwing paint on it and ripping it to being able to get the dress dry cleaned after to be able to treasure.

To kick off the new year I thought I would put together a series of blogs showing some of my favourite photos I captured in 2016. You can catch up on the previous posts below-

Carmen’s Banquet Centre Wedding Photography Hamilton ON

Carmen’s Banquet Centre Wedding Photography Hamilton ON

Laura and George’s wedding at Carmen’s Banquet Centre in Hamilton was my first time visiting this great venue. The day started with my second photographer visiting the couples home to capture George’s getting ready shots while I went to photograph Laura and the girls getting ready in a room at Carmen’s. Their outdoor ceremony on the roof at Carmen’s was something very different for me to photograph and that was followed by family photographs inside at the venue then followed by going to a local waterfall and capturing some lovely shots of them with their wedding party, which mainly consisted of their beautiful children. After a fun reception we photographed a bunch of outdoor backlit and sparkler photos which I knew Laura had really been looking to so I was glad that the weather held out for us.

Elm Hurst Inn Wedding Photography

Elm Hurst Inn Wedding Photography

This lovely spring wedding last year was captured at the Elm Hurst Inn. Heather and Mark had been together for quite a few years so they wanted their wedding to be a celebration but also to keep it as candid and comfortable as possible. Heather made many of the decorations, favours and even the gorgeous Thank You banner. They opted for a first look which is a great idea for if you are wanting to spend more time with your guests during the cocktail hour and also to capture the real emotion close together for the first moment of seeing each other. Heather’s neices were their wedding party which allowed them to keep it small and intimate and I just loved capturing her emotional father.

Getting ready, ceremony and reception location: Elm Hurst Inn Ingersoll

Same Sex Wedding Photography London Ontario

Same Sex Wedding Photography London Ontario

These images are the first I am sharing from the wonderful experience that was Shutterfest, a big photography conference in St Louis and my first of these kind of events that I have attended. I had listened to Thea Dodd’s classes and tried to absorb as much information as possible from other sources when I booked a same sex wedding last year and thankfully, their engagement session ended up being one of my favourites of the year. These images were taken in Thea Dodd’s class Posing Two Brides and Two Grooms and I picked up a few tricks and captured all of these images that I am really happy with!

Civic Gardens Wedding Photography

Civic Gardens Wedding Photography

Ashley and Adam are no strangers to the wedding industry, he is a DJ and she has modeled gowns in bridal shows before, so they decided that as they wanted to be married on their dating-anniversary, but didn’t want to wait for years for that to come around to being a saturday, that they would marry on a tuesday. They knew that the day of the week doesn’t matter, the people who matter most will make sure that they can get the time off work! They also planned their wedding in a very short amount of time, booking me just one month before the big day, another reason why doing a weekday is a good idea. Their gorgeous daughter lit up the room (and photos) and there is a couple of shots where which show why it is so important to have 2 photographers for your ceremony, showing the different angles which really captured the emotions. The big wedding party was awesome with the snowy cold weather and I just loved the functional and fun centerpieces. Their guests partied on and I loved capturing the moments of the speeches, first dances, cake cutting and bouquet and garter tosses. Civic gardens complex was the perfect venue for this cold outside but warm inside wedding!

Elopement photography London Ontario

Elopement photography London Ontario

I’ve had the pleasure of photographing a few weddings at City Hall now but this was my first ever elopement photography London Ontario. With only the brides children there to witness, Michelle and Peter had a very intimate ceremony overlooking the snow covered grounds. I felt very privileged to be there to capture this emotion filled union and I loved capturing the little details and big moments- I especially loved where they were calling their nearest and dearest to let them in on the surprise. We made the formal portraits as candid as possible to capture their personalities and the Civic Gardens complex atrium was the perfect indoor location to escape the cold winter.

Berkshire Club Wedding Photography London Ontario

Berkshire Club Wedding Photography London Ontario

You may have caught Diana and Edwar’s engagement session from earlier today- not going to lie I went to write their wedding post as it is right around 1 year since their wedding and then realized I hadn’t even post their engagement session so as I wanted to put this up for ‘Wedding Wednesday’ I made myself write the two blogs in one day 🙂

Diana and Edwar came to me by a referral from one of Diana’s very helpful bridesmaids whose sisters wedding I had photographed. They got ready at a friends house which with the hardwood floors, mirror and paintings made for great getting ready shot opportunities. It was then off to the Berkshire Club Wedding Photography London Ontario for their ceremony and reception. We had planned on going to Civic Gardens for the photographs in between but decided that there wouldn’t be enough time so I was put to the test to photograph everything right outside the venue, in the snow! Everything worked out well and I loved their simple but beautiful decor for the reception, and just check out the awesome colour blue bridesmaids dresses!

Victoria Park engagement photography London Ontario

Victoria Park engagement photography London Ontario

Diana and Edwar’s engagement session was one of my favourite winter engagement sessions ever, we had some great sunlight, wonderful iconic Victoria Park engagement photography London Ontario location and of course a very loving engaged couple! As Diana and Edwar hadn’t lived in London for long they asked me for suggestions and we decided on Victoria park because of the variety the park offers in the winter season with the skate rink and paths, as well as being able to skip across to the London Life building and get a bunch of Canadian flags in the background. One of my favourite shots was taken with people in the background which is never usually the case, but this time I did a long exposure to blur them and would title this shot ‘Time stands still when I’m with you’.

Chicago Wedding Photography styled shoot

At the beginning of October I was heading to Chicago for a concert so decided to see if I could put together a little styled wedding shoot while I was there and this is the outcome! Jess and Matt were the lovely couple who made my ‘Iconic Chicago’ theme come to life (and directed me through the insanely busy streets of downtown). They sure got a lot of ‘Congratulations’ and received many compliments on the Ivory pearl ‘Harper’ gown and gorgeous veil from Once Upon a Time Weddings. It was a lot of fun and I would so love do real Chicago wedding photography, there were so many amazing spots to take photos, especially around sunset. Contact me if you are looking for a photographer for your wedding, in Chicago or other awesome destinations!
