Trash the dress London Ontario

Trash the dress London Ontario

Amy was the winner last year of a Trash the Dress London Ontario competition, we have worked together with the Whoa Mama business she runs with other local mama Nicolle and it was nice to get to do something creative and fun. The gorgeous hair and makeup was done by Beauty By Mallory and we took the opportunity to do some product shots of a grey crochet shawl (perfect for winter weddings) which was made by Simply Adorable Crochet. Port Stanley’s little beach was the perfect location for this trash the dress shoot. We then captured the sun setting with some shots on the sand, with me wading out into the water to get the shot. Then ventured to the field where I really like the shot with the birds flying in the air. Out to the rock wall and as I was trying to so a long exposure to get the water to go all milky, I had my camera on a tripod and when I moved to adjust one of my flashes, the wind caught the tripod and the camera went smashing down the rocks on the tripod towards the water. Luckily no waves came at that time and I was able to grab a leg of the tripod and pull it back up. Heart attack. I thought the whole thing was surely broken but ended up the lens hood mostly saved it and there has just been a broken piece of plastic on the lens. I kept my cool (but not quite as much as if it had been with a first time client) and went on with the shoot. We got some playing with the water shots (and it was almost completely dark by this point) but loved the full moon glistening off of the water in the last shot.

Many people say to me that they would like to do a trash the dress shoot but wouldn’t want to ruin their dress (even though it has been sitting in the closet without having been dry cleaned for years). Amy just took her dress home, rinsed out the sand and put it inside out on a gentle wash in the washing machine and it was absolutely fine! There certainly are destructive ways of doing trash the dress (paint, ripping, fire) and non-destructive ways (water, mud, grungy location like with graffiti) you just need to do what works for you.

I have a special offer that if you book your trash the dress session in April, for anytime before the end of July, you get the hour session and 20 images of your choice for just $200+hst (regularly $275+hst)! So contact me now!

Civic Gardens Wedding Photography

Civic Gardens Wedding Photography

Ashley and Adam are no strangers to the wedding industry, he is a DJ and she has modeled gowns in bridal shows before, so they decided that as they wanted to be married on their dating-anniversary, but didn’t want to wait for years for that to come around to being a saturday, that they would marry on a tuesday. They knew that the day of the week doesn’t matter, the people who matter most will make sure that they can get the time off work! They also planned their wedding in a very short amount of time, booking me just one month before the big day, another reason why doing a weekday is a good idea. Their gorgeous daughter lit up the room (and photos) and there is a couple of shots where which show why it is so important to have 2 photographers for your ceremony, showing the different angles which really captured the emotions. The big wedding party was awesome with the snowy cold weather and I just loved the functional and fun centerpieces. Their guests partied on and I loved capturing the moments of the speeches, first dances, cake cutting and bouquet and garter tosses. Civic gardens complex was the perfect venue for this cold outside but warm inside wedding!

Elopement photography London Ontario

Elopement photography London Ontario

I’ve had the pleasure of photographing a few weddings at City Hall now but this was my first ever elopement photography London Ontario. With only the brides children there to witness, Michelle and Peter had a very intimate ceremony overlooking the snow covered grounds. I felt very privileged to be there to capture this emotion filled union and I loved capturing the little details and big moments- I especially loved where they were calling their nearest and dearest to let them in on the surprise. We made the formal portraits as candid as possible to capture their personalities and the Civic Gardens complex atrium was the perfect indoor location to escape the cold winter.

Pregnancy Announcement London Ontario

Pregnancy Announcement London Ontario

As I am off today to photograph a pregnancy announcement session (the dad knows but we will be capturing it for them to announce to the rest of the world) I thought it was fitting to post this Pregnancy Announcement London Ontario blog from photographs taken a bit over a year ago. One of my previous wedding clients let me in on a secret, and I was there at Prince Alberts Diner to capture her telling her husband, in a very cute way, that she was pregnant. Now, as mentioned in the Proposal photography post, my task was made a bit harder in that the subject knew who I was so I tried to go incognito, this time as I knew I had to be inside, I took my fiance with me to make it look like we just also happened to be there on a date. I was recognized but told later that he didn’t suspect anything and I really don’t think that his reactions could be any more expressive! I felt making the images black and white made the expressions the main thing that draws your eye and I’m so excited to be photogaphing their little ones 6 month milestone next month (yes, I know I’m really far behind on blogs but I’ll get there 🙂

If you enjoyed this post, check out the other Pregnancy Announcement I photographed last year.

Berkshire Club Wedding Photography London Ontario

Berkshire Club Wedding Photography London Ontario

You may have caught Diana and Edwar’s engagement session from earlier today- not going to lie I went to write their wedding post as it is right around 1 year since their wedding and then realized I hadn’t even post their engagement session so as I wanted to put this up for ‘Wedding Wednesday’ I made myself write the two blogs in one day 🙂

Diana and Edwar came to me by a referral from one of Diana’s very helpful bridesmaids whose sisters wedding I had photographed. They got ready at a friends house which with the hardwood floors, mirror and paintings made for great getting ready shot opportunities. It was then off to the Berkshire Club Wedding Photography London Ontario for their ceremony and reception. We had planned on going to Civic Gardens for the photographs in between but decided that there wouldn’t be enough time so I was put to the test to photograph everything right outside the venue, in the snow! Everything worked out well and I loved their simple but beautiful decor for the reception, and just check out the awesome colour blue bridesmaids dresses!

Victoria Park engagement photography London Ontario

Victoria Park engagement photography London Ontario

Diana and Edwar’s engagement session was one of my favourite winter engagement sessions ever, we had some great sunlight, wonderful iconic Victoria Park engagement photography London Ontario location and of course a very loving engaged couple! As Diana and Edwar hadn’t lived in London for long they asked me for suggestions and we decided on Victoria park because of the variety the park offers in the winter season with the skate rink and paths, as well as being able to skip across to the London Life building and get a bunch of Canadian flags in the background. One of my favourite shots was taken with people in the background which is never usually the case, but this time I did a long exposure to blur them and would title this shot ‘Time stands still when I’m with you’.

Adult Cake Smash London Ontario, Canada

Adult Cake Smash London Ontario, Canada

I was inspired to write this blog last week when I replied to a post on one of the local facebook buy and sell sites. The post was looking for a present for a 25 year old who has everything. You know what I can almost guarantee no-one you know has? An adult cake smash! It is the perfect present for 19th/21st/30th birthdays and everything in between and beyond. Imagine a 90yo cake smash, that would be adorable!

The story of these images goes that I was tagged by one of my clients in Shannon Squires Adult Cake Smash session and it happened to be just a bit over a week before my birthday. If you know me at all, you know that I am a huge cupcake fan (even going as far as to get a tattoo of one) so it goes without saying that her photos inspired me to quickly put together a cake smash of my own! The photographs were taken by my second photographer Clara, the cute (and delicious) cake was from Zandy Cakes, the Tutu from Little Pumpkin, 28th birthday shirt from Livy bean, Nails by Gelous Beauty Bar and I brought along the suitcases, cake stand and cupcake party hat (which was actually a present from my best friend from a few years back) from my prop collection.

So you’re thinking, that looks like so much fun! I want to do that for my next birthday! Awesome, treat yo self and lets book it now and you’ll have something fun to look forward to. Maybe you’re thinking you have a special friend or family member that you know would love it, lets set up a gift certificate for them! Sessions start at $125+hst and range up to $250+hst. The $250 package includes the cake, use of the custom outfit, 20 images of your choice and the 1 hour session- we can do some photos of you with your family, significant other or individual ones first (in regular clothes) and then capture the cake smash.

Ivey Spencer Wedding Photography

Ivey Spencer Wedding Photography

To follow up from Dave and Kim’s fall engagement session post earlier in the week, I’m happy to post their wonderful winter wedding from a year ago this week! (Just look at how much snow was around then compared to now!) It’s amazing to think that I met Dave through couchsurfing when I very first moved to London and after keeping in touch through the power of facebook and random couchsurfing meet ups I was given the pleasure of capturing their lovely wedding day!

The day began with me arriving to photograph the girls getting ready, I would like to say bright and early but it was more like foggy and early! The hair and makeup artists did a wonderful job enhancing the brides natural beauty and I loved capturing the details and the candid moments along the way. Clara was the second shooter and she captured the guys getting ready, funky socks and all. We headed for the church and it was a beautiful union of the two families. After some photographs taken at the church and on the Ivey Spencer grounds was a lovely lunch-reception with fun games and emotional speeches. After they had farewelled their guests we snuck off for a few last shots with the wonderful new Mr & Mrs.

Best of 2015: Pet Photography Sessions London Ontario

Wrap up of Erin Woodgate Photography’s best Pet Photography Sessions London Ontario!

2015 brought a change in Pet Photography Sessions London Ontario compared to what I had done in previous years. More of my clients opted for my mini sessions with their pets than they had in the past, with less doing the full on location session. To kick off the new year I thought I would put together a series of blogs showing some of my favourite photos I captured in 2015. You can catch up on the previous posts below-

I really love doing pet sessions, as I am not in a position right now to have my own pets I just love being around other people with their pets! Below you will see some of my favourite images from the year, some were taken as part of family or engagement sessions, a bunch were taken at the Bark in the Park show and the Pioneer Village dog days show. One of the images, the cat with the guitar was actually just an inquisitive cat while I was doing lighting tests for a newborn shoot in someone’s home, but I liked the image so had to keep it! I also had the opportunity this year to photograph a dog agility competition and Pooch Plunge as well as help out a couple of local rescues including Hoppy Hearts Rabbit Rescue on their Jacked Rabbit’s calendar and the Canadian Dachshund rescue.
