Bellamere Winery Ontario Wedding Photography

Bellamere Winery Ontario Wedding Photography

Angelika and Matt were married almost a year ago now and I wanted to make sure their November wedding was up on the blog! They got ready at the Delta Armouries hotel and as they didn’t have a second photographer it was great that they were both getting ready at the same location so I could run between the rooms to capture each getting ready. They were married at Our Lady of Czestochowa Polish Catholic Church in London then as it was November and they had decided they did not want to see each other before the ceremony, it was light enough just for us to get a photograph of all of their guests on the front steps of the church then head to Parkway Garden Centre who were nice enough to let us use their space for some wedding party photographs. It was then to Bellamere for some family photos followed by the reception. We had a rainy night and I loved how the night shots came out!

Ivey Spencer Leadership Centre Wedding Photography

Sarah and Alex were married a year ago at Ivey Spencer Leadership Centre in London Ontario and I loved capturing their big day. The girls were all very relaxed getting ready, as were the guys who got to hang out and play pool, I always think the guys getting ready shots are made much more fun when they are doing an activity. When I asked the happy couple what they were most looking forward to it was their first look, it was an emotional moment and really allowed them to relax more through the rest of the evening with their guests. We captured a bunch of portraits of them outside with their wedding party, family and some special ones just of the two of them. We then headed in from the chilly March wind and they did what was a new thing at that point ‘faceswap’ which was my first bride and groom faceswap! After a few more indoor photos the ceremony was held inside and even though they had done the first look, it was still a very emotional moment for all involved. When future bride and grooms are tossing up whether to do a first look or not I always tell them how all of the emotion is still there for that walk up the aisle, its just that you can then hang out with your guests straight after the ceremony (or after the family photos). Rob from Music Central was there brilliant MC and I loved seeing their guests enjoying the same day slideshow I put together of their first look and earlier moments from the day. After the lovely speeches and fun dancing I headed outside with the couple for some dramatically lit nighttime shots- check out that clear sky!

Winter Wedding Photography London Ontario

Winter Wedding Photography London Ontario

I met with a lovely couple today who have their end of fall/coming into winter wedding booked with me and we were talking about the schedule of the day and how it is impacted by the setting sun in the winter months. It got me thinking that I should do a post with a few of the things I mentioned to them.

For winter weddings, I always recommend a first look, this means we can capture your genuine emotions right up close with one another, and you are able to do the photographs in the sun, without having to make your ceremony too early. However, I think it is completely up to the couple as to if this is something they want to do and this lovely wedding of Laura and Ryan back in Feburary 2015 still hasn’t been blogged and I thought it was a great one for demonstrating a great winter wedding schedule for couples who don’t want to see each other before the ceremony for a first look.

Laura and Ryan met online and I could just tell by the way they look and laugh with each other that they are a perfect match! We captured their final getting ready moments and 1pm ceremony at the Village Green Community Church, after their ceremony and receiving line we captured many groupings of friends and family which was of course helped by the detailed shot list. We captured these, and some of the wedding party underneath an arch that the couple had set up, it is a very good idea to have an indoor option in the colder months for these types of photographs. Clara and I then headed with the wedding party to Civic Gardens for some winter wonderland photographs. It was quite a cold day so didn’t spend too much time outside, but we were still able to get a large variety by divide and conquering, which we were able to do as there were two photographers. We all then headed to the London Ukraninian Centre for their reception surrounded by many of their family and friends.  Their reception kicked off around 530 and we captured all the important moments- all the way until we heard the cha cha slide 🙂

Best of 2016: Wedding Photography

London Ontario Wedding Photography

This was a big year for weddings- I photographed 31 in Ontario and was Bride, Maid of Honour and Bridesmaid outside of Ontario! I have decided to split up the wedding photography blogs this year as otherwise they would be far too long and I find it hard to cut down! The posts will be this one which is couples (and a couple of just the bride or groom), this wednesday will be Wedding Parties and next wednesday will be candid moments. There are so many more shots from each of these weddings that I could have chosen that I really could make a much larger series of these blogs, including best dress shot, best ring shot etc, but the list would go on forever but I promise that in the coming months all of the weddings will be featured right here on my blog so be sure to check back!

Below you will see some of my favourite images from the year, you’ll see some from all of the seasons. Some on freezing winter days, I did 4 weddings this year that with the humidity were 40 degrees or over and everything in between. I everything from elopements with just a couple of guests to 300 guest affairs. I photographed weddings in locations such as Muskoka, Belmont, St Thomas, Ingersoll, Woodstock, Melbourne, Thamesford, Mt Brydges, St Marys, as well as many of the local London venues. If you would like more information about my London Ontario Wedding Photography follow this link.

Civic Gardens Wedding Photography

Civic Gardens Wedding Photography

Ashley and Adam are no strangers to the wedding industry, he is a DJ and she has modeled gowns in bridal shows before, so they decided that as they wanted to be married on their dating-anniversary, but didn’t want to wait for years for that to come around to being a saturday, that they would marry on a tuesday. They knew that the day of the week doesn’t matter, the people who matter most will make sure that they can get the time off work! They also planned their wedding in a very short amount of time, booking me just one month before the big day, another reason why doing a weekday is a good idea. Their gorgeous daughter lit up the room (and photos) and there is a couple of shots where which show why it is so important to have 2 photographers for your ceremony, showing the different angles which really captured the emotions. The big wedding party was awesome with the snowy cold weather and I just loved the functional and fun centerpieces. Their guests partied on and I loved capturing the moments of the speeches, first dances, cake cutting and bouquet and garter tosses. Civic gardens complex was the perfect venue for this cold outside but warm inside wedding!

Elopement photography London Ontario

Elopement photography London Ontario

I’ve had the pleasure of photographing a few weddings at City Hall now but this was my first ever elopement photography London Ontario. With only the brides children there to witness, Michelle and Peter had a very intimate ceremony overlooking the snow covered grounds. I felt very privileged to be there to capture this emotion filled union and I loved capturing the little details and big moments- I especially loved where they were calling their nearest and dearest to let them in on the surprise. We made the formal portraits as candid as possible to capture their personalities and the Civic Gardens complex atrium was the perfect indoor location to escape the cold winter.

Berkshire Club Wedding Photography London Ontario

Berkshire Club Wedding Photography London Ontario

You may have caught Diana and Edwar’s engagement session from earlier today- not going to lie I went to write their wedding post as it is right around 1 year since their wedding and then realized I hadn’t even post their engagement session so as I wanted to put this up for ‘Wedding Wednesday’ I made myself write the two blogs in one day 🙂

Diana and Edwar came to me by a referral from one of Diana’s very helpful bridesmaids whose sisters wedding I had photographed. They got ready at a friends house which with the hardwood floors, mirror and paintings made for great getting ready shot opportunities. It was then off to the Berkshire Club Wedding Photography London Ontario for their ceremony and reception. We had planned on going to Civic Gardens for the photographs in between but decided that there wouldn’t be enough time so I was put to the test to photograph everything right outside the venue, in the snow! Everything worked out well and I loved their simple but beautiful decor for the reception, and just check out the awesome colour blue bridesmaids dresses!

Ivey Spencer Wedding Photography

Ivey Spencer Wedding Photography

To follow up from Dave and Kim’s fall engagement session post earlier in the week, I’m happy to post their wonderful winter wedding from a year ago this week! (Just look at how much snow was around then compared to now!) It’s amazing to think that I met Dave through couchsurfing when I very first moved to London and after keeping in touch through the power of facebook and random couchsurfing meet ups I was given the pleasure of capturing their lovely wedding day!

The day began with me arriving to photograph the girls getting ready, I would like to say bright and early but it was more like foggy and early! The hair and makeup artists did a wonderful job enhancing the brides natural beauty and I loved capturing the details and the candid moments along the way. Clara was the second shooter and she captured the guys getting ready, funky socks and all. We headed for the church and it was a beautiful union of the two families. After some photographs taken at the church and on the Ivey Spencer grounds was a lovely lunch-reception with fun games and emotional speeches. After they had farewelled their guests we snuck off for a few last shots with the wonderful new Mr & Mrs.

Windermere Manor Wedding Photography

Windermere Manor Wedding Photography

With the beginning of the year, I have made a resolution to post each wedding I shot last year within a week of each of the couples 1st anniversaries. Another resolution is to post a picture of the back of my camera from each session on my instagram so be sure to follow me @erinwoodgatephotography.

Jennifer and Peiter’s wedding at the gorgeous Windermere Manor was my first wedding of 2015 and it sure was a cold one but the wonderful wedding party stuck it out and I even spotted a deer on the Windermere property! Both the bride and groom got ready in the lovely rooms at Winderemere and I just love the idea of opening a card or letter from your other half as they did. The details for this wedding were just gorgeous with the purple/vintage/sparkle look and I just loved the unique lanterns instead of bouquets for the bridesmaids. Jennifer even wore her mom’s veil which I think is just lovely to have a something old as personal as that. As I recommend for winter weddings with later ceremonies, the couple did a first look inside (so that their emotions really were that of seeing each other for the first time, not of being cold!) and then we took some photos of the wedding party and couple on the Winderemere property then to Western for the lovely snowy landscape there.

Following the ceremony we captured some shots of all of the guests and of the families and then the very fun reception. I was even called on to hula hoop to make the new bride and groom kiss! I loved capturing the Chinese tradition elements that they incorporated in and I thought their idea of ‘tossing the bouquet’ was really nice, asking all the women in the room who were married to stand and gradually asking them to sit down and clapping them for being married for 5 years, 10 years, finishing with giving it to the couple who had been married the longest. The MC lead everyone in a 12-days-of-christmas singalong where the words were traded with things to be thankful for in marriage sung by each of the 12 tables of guests. The shoe game was a big hit as always and I liked being able to get the above angle shot from the balcony. The following are links to some of the wonderful vendors that made the day as gorgeous as it was.

Cake: Jessie Jones – Jonesin’ for Cake

Decorator: Jackie Phillips – To Suit Your Fancy

Hair/Makeup: Mandy and Alice – Alycat Makeup & Hair Artistry
