Wedding Photography London Ontario
The Erin Woodgate Photography team explain the style of their Wedding Photography London Ontario. We use a fusion of styles throughout a wedding day but overall we take a ‘lifestyle’ approach which basically is documentary/photojournalistic, but redefined in that we will direct certain posed shots and we will move an element in or out of the frame if it will make the photograph stronger, while trying to keep the mood as comfortable and candid as possible. If you want to learn more about photography styles- Check out this article from The Knot.
All of our packages are for the full day, we do this because we want to be able to capture the true moments and emotions of the day. When a photographer is only employed for a few hours it is often necessary to stage some of the shots that are not captured genuinely. This might include a fake first dance or cake cutting for example. Our approach allows the day to unfold naturally and to fully document just how you have structured your day, rather than having us dictate the flow.
WHAT DOES A TYPICAL WEDDING DAY LOOK LIKE?
No two weddings are the same and we love being able to capture so many different happy couples that are able to express their unique personalities through different elements of their day. That being said, how we document weddings tends to flow in the following manner.
Getting ready shots are a lot of fun for us as it is normally a time to get to know the wedding party, which helps a great deal with the formal shots later in the day. For this part of the day we do take a more hands on approach with the detail shots. For example we may move the dresses to a favourable location with great lighting. We will document the dress going on the bride and sometimes follow up with some posed shots if time allows. If a second photographer is included in your package they will go to the groom’s side of the wedding party while the main photographer goes to the bride’s side.
First Look shots can be a wonderful idea as it allows the emotions to be captured right there together in a fun way. This can particularly help with couples who are nervous about standing in front of all of their guests and letting their true emotions come out with everyone watching. It is also great photography-wise as your hair and makeup are fresh and the photos are already captured in the event another element of your day was to go over-time.
The ceremony is straight documentary, we try to be a fly on the wall and as unobtrusive as possible, while still getting the shots we need.
The family formal shots, are done quickly and easily because we will ask for you ahead of time to provide us with a ‘shot list’ of the family groups you want included. These shots are usually done usually immediately after the ceremony (or receiving line). Although these are captured in a more traditional way than others, we will still attempt to get some great candids throughout.
The wedding party and bride and groom portraits section of the day is where we are really able to have fun and capture a mix of formals and candid shots of you interacting with you wedding party and new husband/wife!
The reception is where we go back to my ‘photo ninja’ mode, documenting everything that is going on in the most interesting, creative and unique way possible. We particularly love the speeches where we can capture not only the emotions of person speaking and the bride and groom but also the guests as they are watching.
Romantic sunset shots are included if there happens to be a small break around sunset. We love to be able to pop outside for five minutes to get additional romantic shots of the couple with the gorgeous sunset light.
Formal dance and other wedding formalities. Generally the second photographer will leave after the formal dances and the main photographer will stay, capturing all of the special moments until the last formality of the night (usually garter toss).
Once it is dark and you’ve had a chance to have a bit of a dance, we love to be able to run outside with the couple one last time to do a dramatically lit shot.
WHAT TO DO WITH THE IMAGES?
These photos are your first family heirloom. They are the legacy of all of the planning and will bring back memories and stories which will be passed down through generations. We cannot stress enough the importance of a timeless professional quality album for you to have to enjoy as a conversation piece on your coffee table but also to pass on to your children. USB’s with digital images might not be readable in years to come but high quality prints last for generations! We also offer unique prints on metal and wood to suits your style.
Designing albums is one of our favourite parts of the entire process; seeing the story of the day all come together in a condensed way.
You will find a lot more people will be interested in an album than in watching 1000 digital photos.

Oh Erin. I am only half way though (my wedding photos) and sobbing uncontrollably. You guys did such an amazing job. I love both of you for taking such great memories.
Mocha Shriners Wedding, January 2014
Initially I wasn't going to get a photographer for out wedding, I was just going to have a friend take pictures but I'm so glad I changed my mind. Erin is the best and she made me want to be excited about the pictures which I now have to look at and remember this day forever... After meeting her I could tell she genuinely loves what she does and it comes through in her pictures. Prompt, professional, friendly and quality are just a few words I'd use. Looking forward to having family pictures done in the future!
Bellamere Winery Wedding, July 2014
We would also like to tell you that the photos are gorgeous and that you did a phenomenal job for us! We are so unbelievably happy with everything you have done for us - all the emails, the engagement session (we had so much fun!), and our wedding day. You've captured it perfectly and we love just looking through our pictures, we cannot thank you enough! ...I still can't believe that's us, we've had so many compliments from that picture! Again, thank you so much for all the amazing work you have done for us...
Elm Hurst Inn Wedding Photography, August 2013
My wife and I had looked at a LOT of different photographers for our wedding. We didn't really like what anyone had to offer until we came across Erin. After meeting with her it was clear she was the right choice. When it came to our engagement/wedding photos we were more than pleased and impressed. It also seemed like everyone who saw our photos absolutely loved them too. So much so that my wife's maid of honour is also having Erin do her engagement/wedding photos. Erin in my opinion is well worth the investment.
Greek Wedding Photography, September 2014
Erin's work truly speaks for itself but I am truly amazed by Erin's attention to detail, eye for unique shots and creative flair. Her natural photography style means that looking through my wedding photos is like reliving every detail. Easily the most important and best choice my husband and I made while planning our wedding.
Rose Chapel Wedding, September 2014
I can't say enough good things about Erin. She was game for whatever ideas we came up with for our engagement/wedding pictures (and came up with some fantastic ideas herself). She perfectly captured our big day, and did a wonderful job of keeping us on track and wrangling family members for pictures as necessary. She ended up giving us even more pictures than we originally had expected, and we love every single one. For anyone looking for a great photographer, and great value, I highly recommend Erin Woodgate Photography!
The London Club Wedding, August 2013
Thank You so much Erin for doing my Daughter Mallory's wedding. You are truly a professional, helping us all were you didn't have to. You did up dresses, helped put on shoes, necklaces and you were there for all of us. You went above and beyond on my daughters wedding day and it would not have been the same without you. Best wishes in your future Erin, you are truly an amazing woman
Civic Gardens Wedding, May 2013
Thanks to Erin we have beautiful and meaningful photographs of our wedding, our guests, and family. I loved that Erin is creative, artistic and yet also casual. She did more than we expected to make our day run smoothly and capture the important moments.
Purple Hill Country Hall, April 2011
Erin has done my engagement and wedding photos! My husband and I are VERY, VERY happy with the results. I was looking for someone with an art background because to me, photography is art. Erin has her degree in Fine Art and is also well traveled, hailing all the way from Australia! Erin's photos of us were candid, original, free and gorgeous. Erin has a new and fresh outlook of photography and she embraces the freedom needed to capture REAL moments. Thank you so much for your hard work.... we are looking forward to our maternity and infant shoots!!! Love it!
